Dutch Uncles

By Caroline Burman

Dutch Uncles

A Dutch Uncle is apparently a person who bluntly and sternly lectures or scolds someone, often with benevolent intent. The band by the same name thankfully does not have a stern or a blunt sound, but instead some great melodic and sometimes pleasantly haunting tunes that are starting to get them noticed in the music industry. With Duncan Wallis on vocals, his live performance is a mix of Jarvis Cocker's jerky dancing, Ian Brown's swagger and Alan Partridge's dress sense - an unbeatable combination in anyone's eyes I am sure you'll agree.. The sound and scope of his voice also adds a Foalsesque dimension to the band's self titled album which was released earlier this year, and with appearances at In The City this month, the buzz surrounding their live performances is sure to carry on growing.
